“A Wonderful Surprise”
Traveled to Osaka with my husband, our son and his girlfriend in April 2019. The found Masuda listed as a seafood restaurant on a website. Once we arrived at the restaurant we found out it was a 2* Michelin place. We were seated at the counter and proceeded to have the most fabulous 12 course meal. ...We had our only chef and sou chef provide us with anything we desired. The food we beautifully presented and was of the highest standard. The meal was very special experience!!!

“Quite an experience!”
Masuda is tiny. There's room for about 10 at the counter and a few more in a private room...but that's it. Combine that with 2 Michelin stars and you can see why getting a seat here is a challenge. Having said that, the concierge at our hotel (Marriot) manged to snag us a spot at the counter for the... following evening...so we either got really lucky or the concierge has some serious sway!! The meal is not cheap (Yen 12,000 for the set menu kaiseki) but it's an experience hard to put a price on. It's all about the ingredients and they are treated with great care by the chefs you watch prepare your meals. We had about 9 or 10 courses and each was amazing. Beautiful flavours with immaculate presentation. They speak almost no English but went to the effort of bringing out books so that they could explain what we were eating. The restaurant is tucked away on the 2nd floor of a building up a tiny little alley just off the main Shinsiabashi shopping street near the Daimaru dept store. Google maps have it accurately.

“Great 2 star Michelin at reasonable prices ”
Had a great meal at Masuda and the prices are very reasonable. Food and service was impeccable and the chef even spoke some English and tried very hard to explain every dish, his name was uno. Only 12 seating at the bar and must reserve the table well in advance!

“Nice one, not overly expensive, but lacks WOW”
Had a kaiseiki dinner with family early June and we booked early. This place is MICHELIN rated and is full when we turned up for dinner at this cozy little place on the second floor of a small office building near Shinsaibashi metro. Food is innovative, and we chose the ¥12,000 dinner option( aroun...d 9 course). Not overly expensive if you are talking about Michelin rated eateries. But, I feel the food lacks something that would make me say, I would come back again. Give it a try when you would like to try some authentic kaiseki in the Shinsaibashi area.
