Takezushi

Was really excited to try this place out because of the reviews. But as soon as we walked in, instead of welcoming us in, the sushi chef asked if we are “Chinese” which I found very weird and rude. He asked in a way that did not sound welcoming. We ended up staying because we are actually Japanese/A...merican and spoke fluent Japanese. But it still left a bad taste in my mouth. The omakase course is all right, though on the pricier side. I do think that it is a counterproductive move to open a restaurant in such a touristy area when you won’t serve international travelers.

We came here using TripAdvisor. The fish was really fresh and also very good but some sushi had too much wasabi inside: I felt it inside the mouth and also in the nose. In my opinion it was also too expensive if compared with the other sushi restaurant we tried in our trip

Gion has restaurants on every street and corner. But it takes some searching to find this place. I can assure you that you will be glad that you did. We opened the door of a building in an uncrowded area and sat at the bar. We were the only people in the restaurant which is run by the chef and his... wife. They have very limited English but are friendly and kind. We opted for omakase and let the chef do his work. Each piece was like a work of art and we were told how to eat each piece....some with fingers and some with chopsticks. As the dinner went on the chef would show us photos of each fish. As the night went on, wife would translate Japanese to English, and would write it on a paper for us to understand. We did the same with google translate on the phone. We learned that the chef has been preparing sushi for 42 years and it definitely shows. The food was impeccable and the service matched the food. Take the time to find this restaurant and enjoy the experience

We were in Gion and looking for a nice sushi restaurant. There was a Michelin rated restaurant that turned out to be closed. I saw this restaurant with three reviews and no pictures and decided to give it a go. The host chef and hostess were very nice. They do not speak English. The chef had a gre...at personality and cut each piece of sushi in front of us. Some of the pieces he preferred us to use our hands and some he preferred us to use chopsticks. The fish was very fresh and the flavors were fantastic. Like another reviewer said, it pains me to write this review as this is a special place and I'd hate to see it crowded by tourists on my next visit. The only reason I'm writing this review is because the chef and hostess deserve to be recognized for their great little restaurant.

In this place, no english spoken, but kidness of chef and his wife is enough. We were alone during our dinner time, we 've had push the door by chance. Sushis and sashimis are really good ! Very fresh fish, prepared in front of you by the chef. Very tasty and not so expensive due to quality !! I rec...ommend this tiny place
