“Top of the line Wagyu (Japanese beef) restaurant”
Ginkakuji Onishi is a famous butcher shop in the Ginkakuji (Silver Pavillion) area of Kyoto and this restaurant is it's extension. They only serve A5 rank wagyu, which is excellent and sourced directly from farms and cut at the shop - just melts in your mouth. They have both a la carte yakiniku (BBQ...) or a set course menu. If you are able to splurge for the course menu, this is the way to go. They range from US$75-120 (depending on exchange rate), but my favorite is the Onishi Special Course (JPY9,800) which includes the Chateaubriand, which is to die for. If you can eat raw beef, then the wagyu sushi is simply out of this world. Reservations are recommended even on weekdays, because the restaurant is not very big. The course menu items also change seasonally, so you won't get the same thing twice. Please note that this restaurant does not allow children under the age of 7 and is only open for dinner.
