Nakashimaya

Would give 0 stars if I could. Japan is known for its people’s hospitality, but this place is the opposite. It only allows cancellation through a phone call, but when my mom tried calling to cancel, no one picked up the phone. She tried calling for over an hour with different cellphones, but no one ...picked up. She then tried using a telephone booth, but again no reply. After that, she went to the local police station to ask if one of the officers could call for her. They called the restaurant, but no reply. Since there was a no-show fee if you had a reservation, my mom decided we should go. When we were there the next day, my mom told them of her experience. The manager then said that no one ever called. He then said that our phone must not have worked, so he told us to call them. My mom said her phone had to have WiFi to call, and the owner refused to give us the WiFi. My mom then used my phone to try calling, as she also did that yesterday. We then heard the phone in the restaurant ring, and the owner confirmed it was us. He then started vehemently telling us to leave, which we eventually did. At the entrance of the restaurant there was a sign saying “Due to the number of foreigner no show on the day of reservation, we are not accepting in person same day reservations.” This is evidently because they refuse to pick up the phone to get the no-show fee. Huge scam. Do not go as if you have to cancel, you may end up paying large amount of money. My mom left a review earlier about the same thing, but they hid it from the reviews page.

We found this izakaya thanks to reviews in Tripadvisor. No easy to find as we ended up by mistake first in the hotel next door, but then we’ll super worth it. We had a Japanese friend booked it and you better do it. It is a course menu going through salad dishes, duck, sushi, sausages and all elegan...tly served. Beer goes well with that and price is very very reasonable.

Went based on hotel recommendation. We made a reservation. When we arrived it was almost empty. We requested to sit at the counter where half the seats were open. They said no. We asked to sit on the first floor, which was completely empty, where the seats were somewhat comfortable, although on t...he floor. They said no. They said we could eat on the second floor where you sit on the floor kneeling or with your legs crossed in front of you. It seemed absurd for an empty place. The final "kiss of death" was when the host told us that we needed cellular service to order (which we didn't have in Japan). I've traveled in Japan a few times and never saw anything like this. This place wore out my last nerve. So we left.

This is an authentic Japanese restaurant. Service was excellent food was reasonable. The restaurant does not have tables so you sit on the floor at low level tables. The air conditioning was set to 26 degrees so a little warm. Probably suits the local palette better than the overseas visitor.

We booked our table based on the good reviews on TripAdvisor only to be disappointed and left wondering where those reviews came from. Although the service was quite efficient the dishes we ordered were unsatisfactory.Nothing was tasty enough to merit more than a below average rating. Prices though... were very reasonable.
