Of course this hidden restaurant is absolutely impossible to find randomly as no sign and it is on a first floor of a popular gallery with my shops. But what a surprise , nice atmosphere, superb service , very good Omakaze menu 20 skewers of different products all good an fresh and surprisingly li...ght even it is deep fried , excellent wines selection , of course expensive but worth it.

The food is good here, can come and try. Service is good and the ambience is nice. However, for me, it is too much fried food for one evening.

“first time experiencing Kushiage”

Reviewed 11/Jun/2017

when reading up about Kushiage, i was concerned that i will have issues ordering, unless there was an english menu. Luckily there is no menu at Rokkakutei. service staff told us that its 20 course and to let them know to stop if we are full. totally excited. bread was placed on the plate. the bread ...is used to soak up the oil from the kushiage. we were given 6 sauces and 4 sauces and 2 salts for dipping, and a bucket of raw vegetables. then the food came. the chef would place the stick on top of the bread with the end of the stick pointing to the recommended dipping. the chef would also tell us what the food is. kushiage is truly amazing. many of the combinations were firsts for me. the chef would bring the next stick only after we finished so all food served was hot and freshly fried. as we were quite hungry, we did finish the first 12 sticks quite quickly, and slowed down gradually. food quality was excellent. we paid about sgd100 per person for the food and beer. we went early at about 530pm and were lucky to be able to get a table. by the time we left the restaurant about 730pm, it was full and there was a long queue outside. will be returning to this restaurant.

“One Michelin Star kushiage with excellent wine pairing”

Reviewed 03/Mar/2016

Kushiage aka kushikatsu are skewers (kushi) of deep-fried cutlets of meat and vegetables (katsu). There are no menus, no wine lists and no price lists in this restaurant - just leave everything in the hands of the chef and waiter (Omasake-style). You begin with a procession of deep fried seafood, m...eat and vegetables skewers and when you had your fill just tell the server to stop. For kushiage without wine pairing the bill comes out to JPY8.5-10k per pax depending on how much you had. Check with the waiter on the recommended wines for the food pairing - they do serve wine by the glass even though they don't have a menu. We had a glass champagne (Leclerc-Briant Brut) and an excellent glass Burgundy each (a 1999 Domaine Pierre Damoy Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin). These 2 glasses of wines worked out to only an additional JPY5k per pax which I felt was good value considering the quality and vintage of the burgundy. Reservations are recommended as this place fills up with locals.

“Busy Restaurant, Poor Presentation of Kushikatsu”

3
Reviewed 18/Jan/2016

I had a dinner with my wife at the counter. The restaurant was a bit busy and casual for me who prefer the quiet and closed atmosphere when eating Kushikatsu or Sushi. Kushikatsu was tasty, but what I did not like was that most of the served Kushikatsu had the same presentations regardless of the i...ngredients. Maybe, they have tried to hide the ingredients inside each Kushikatsu to avoid the other Kushikatsu restaurants from imitating their original ones, but the presentations are very important for me to enjoy Kushikatsu. Furthermore, they do not prepare the menu not only of the meals but of the drinks! I needed to tell my preferences for drinks although I would like to choose from the menu. Good thing was that they prepared six flavors of powders or sauces for each Kushikatsu, and we can choose one of them for each. The chef's recommendations are shown by the directions of the skewer, where the edge of the skewer is pointing the most recommended powder or sauce. If you do not mind the casual atmosphere, this restaurant can be an option.
