“Dinner with a Makiko-San and translator”

Reviewed 27/Aug/2024

We reserved a dinner with a Maiko-San (Fukumiyo) and a translator (Takehara Makiko) and both were fantastic dinner company. Fukumiyo-San was delightful in conversation and very curious about our lives and culture. She also had great insight into the Maiko / Geiko culture and answered our myriad of q...uestions based on her own life experiences with great detail and enthusiasm. Takehara Makiko-San was also wonderful in conversation and swift in translation. She shared our enthusiasm and curiosity of the Maiko / Geiko culture and facilitated the conversation while also adding a lot of historical and cultural context, of which she was very knowledgeable. Together, Fukumiyo-San and Takehara Makiko-San made for an engaging evening where we learned a lot and ate great food. I highly recommend both this Maiko- San and translator if you are fortunate enough to have the opportunity.

Everything about this experience was beyond my expectations. Our maiko was Fukumiyo, and she was very personable. Even the shy members of our group felt comfortable talking to her as we all made jokes and had many laughs. We got to learn about maiko tradition and learn about Fukumiyo’s personal jour...ney as a maiko. I came with a group of men, most of which were skeptical that they would enjoy such an experience, but by the end everyone was saying that it was the highlight of their trip. We also had a wonderful translator, named Takehara Makiko, who always kept us engaged in the conversation and offered her personal insights. She was also quite knowledgeable about the world as someone who has traveled.

Had an excellent time at dinner with the maiko. The food was excellent and the staff were very kind. If I have a chance to return to Japan I would do this again!

This was a super highlight. The place is precious, having little separate rooms for your own privacy, unfortunately we did not manage to find the geisha, as on wed they do not work - so bear your day when you do the booking. We had a 13 course menu, all extremely traditional. Vegan, fish, meat, brot...h, rice. All was oishi - or delicious as they would say here. Staff was extremely kind and friendly. The price is unbeatable- we spent 12.000 yen for two for 13 courses menu!!! And what an elegance!!! Def a must!
