“Dumping and fried rice are the best”
The quality of food in general are of high quality and are consistent no matter which shop you visit. Dumpings are the best money can buy. Fried rice is excellent too. It is not cheap compared to other similar restaurant chains.

“Pricey Taiwanese food”
The food is good, but is just like any other Taiwanese place, only way more expensive. My only real complaint here though is the braised beef soup. They do not put the beef tendons in the soup (which is the best part!) This might be a Japan thing though (I've eaten Din Tai Fung in Kaohsiung and Los ...Angeles as well) so if you want to try Din Tai Fung, I don't suggest here. And again, quite pricey for what you're getting: be prepared to spend around ¥2,000 at least per person.

“DIN TAI FUNG”
Din Tai Fung is a restaurant chain originating in Taiwan. It specialises in xiaolongbao or steamed dumplings and there are branches throughout Asia. We hunted down this one situated on the third floor in the Takashimya Department store and located in the corner of women's clothing. The restaurant... was clean and fresh, service was good and the dumplings both steamed and fried were delicious. A great price for a quick bite to eat before heading off to the Geisha show.

“" Taiwanese Dumplings at their Best ! "”
Our Family went to the Din Tai Fung Restaurant on the 3rd floor in the Takashimaya Department store in a very busy upper level shopping district. Din Tai Fung is an international chain if dumpling restaurants, known for their soup dumplings . We ordered a variety of dishes from Shrimp noodle soup, t...o braised beef with noodle soup, to Hot and Sour soup, to many different types and styles of Fresh steamed dumplings. The food was very fresh and very tasty. Din Tai Fung also has stores in the United States. And like all places in Japan it is a little pricey. Very nice place to visit.

“Not the place to try Din Tai Fung”
Din Tai Fung is a remarkable chain, spanning much of Asia and now even America. It serves excellent dim sum, especially their superb xiaolongbao soup dumplings. Unfortunately, the outlet on the third floor of Takashimaya in Kyoto is not one of their better ones. Don't get me wrong. The food is good.... Contrary to another review, they most definitely make their own dumplings -- you can watch them doing it. But although it's good, it's not superlative, as Din Tai Fung usually leads you to expect. The other thing is, it's quite expensive. At the 101 in Taipei -- not exactly the cheapest location in the world -- my son and I had a ludicrous blowout, massive piles of dumpling after dumpling, plus beer, pickles, and you name it. All for about $30 US. I recognize that things are more expensive in Japan, and that food is cheap in Taiwan. But when I went to this place in Kyoto, it cost $35 for two small steamers of 4 dumpling each plus a bowl of not very interesting soup, That's not okay: part of what makes Din Tai Fung so wonderful is that it's excellent food cheap. In Kyoto, it's pretty good food, not cheap. You might get away with that in another city, or even far outside the center of Kyoto. But in the dead center of Kyoto, wonderful, inexpensive restaurants are thick on the ground. If you're visiting Kyoto, this is unfortunately one restaurant to skip.
