The young staffers did not greet or welcome us... just blankly stared and turned away without offering service. When we asked what was the matter, one rude female staffer said “this is Japan”. I have been in Japan for 25 years and know the place was open and had eaten there before (poor service th...en too, but we liked the terrace too much to complain). This time was utterly unbelievable. When I spoke in Japanese, suddenly the tone changed... when I demonstrated that I am familiar with the restaurant, then suddenly we were ready to be served... but we were treated as ETs prior to that... no smile, no greeting, and in fact, they simply turned away from us while we stood there and waited (at the time, there was only ONE table with customers in the entire restaurant). The other staffers looked at us with sharp and unwelcoming looks. When I asked, again, why no one attempted to greet or serve us... in Japanese... I was responded to in English with “we speak Japanese and this is Japan, OK”. I had to keep speaking Japanese and get very annoyed before she changed her tone and suddenly attempted to seat us. Needless to say, we will not be going back and have complained at their head offices.
