“Kushikatsu - Japanese oil fondue pot”
Located on the restaurant floor of Nishinomiya Gardens, across from Joshin electronics is this chain restaurant that specializes in Kushikatsu or otherwise known as the Japanese fry anything on a stick. At your table, you have a pot of boiling hot oil and a metal tray where you place your fried eat...s for you need a place to have the excess oil drip off. The demographic of this restaurant is young couples, younger families. We were the only older people. You have the protein counter, dessert counter, waffle maker, chocolate fountain, cold plate area, curry, ochazuke counter, and an ice cream maker. The designers of this restaurant understand eye appeal - we were drawn by the very large chocolate fountain and the strawberry festival array. It looked amazing!!!! Then we tried the food. As for the proteins - thawed out low-grade beef, pork, and shrimp. Cheap hotdogs, imitation crab, fish cakes, oysters, and even frozen churros - all for your dipping pleasure. You first had to get a bowl of flour paste and panko crumbs then and then you had to coat the food with the stuff before dipping it into the oil. It really got messy at the table. All in all, it was just alright. The alluring desserts were really not that great. Strawberry festival was just strawberry puree, fruit salad, strawberry cakes, strawberry jello - just looked great but it was disappointing. This place however is an all-you-can-eat buffet. There is more than enough food for you to leave full. and satisfied. Would we go again, probably not but if I had a family with children, this place would be a hit. Just be careful with the pot of boiling oil in the middle of the table.
