“When”Fusion” goes perfect.”
Yes, I’m also skeptic of the term “fusion cuisine”, which in some western countries is often summarised into ruining western dishes with a wack of fresh coriander. But Japanese chefs love Italian and French food and these cuisines are treated with utmost respect in Japan. When it comes to “fusion”, ...these guys know what they’re doing and, here at Obase, they have reached perfection. I cannot say much more than the fact that it was one of the best, tastiest, most pleasant dinners of my life. Only a master can get through with suppon, hotaru-ika and shirako in western-style recipes without raising eyebrows in the visitor. At the private room, with their amazing Japanese range of heavenly wines, absolutely gorgeous.

“Thank goodness we knew locals who recommended this restaurant”
The best lunch we had in Japan. It's modern Japanese, slightly influenced by Italian fare. If you have 6 people in your group, ask for the private dining room.

“Perfect Fusion”
We enjoyed an outstanding prix fixe dinner here. It's a perfect, sensitive and just plain delicious blend of Italian and Japanese cuisine. Each course was delicious. the portion sizes are ideal. The setting is quiet and contemporary. We all thought this restaurant was under the radar. As good ...as food can be. Don't overlook it!

“Outstanding and Original ”
On a Thursday evening the restaurant was serving only the Chef's set menu consisting of 6-7 tasting sized courses including dessert and coffee/tea. The decor was modern Japanese with clean lines, lots of wood and care to detail. Seating (for about 12) was on comfortable chairs at a large bar-like t...able with diners on one side and servers on the other. The service, food quality and presentation were top notch. Service was professional, but friendly, not pretentious. Ingredients were local and seasonal including mushrooms, mackerel and others which were new to us. The foie gras was outstanding. The food is clearly Japanese with a European influence (nouvelle cuisine rather than Italian in our view). A dining experience, not just a meal.

“Excellent japanese-italian fusion cooking”
Small kappo-restaurant opposite the catholic church, very friendly, modern cosy style, very good cooking freshly prepared in japanese-italian fusion style. Our favorite Restaurant in Kyoto. We prefer the kappo-bar seating but upstairs they also have three individual tables. Interesting apero from ap...ples ("appletizer") and affordable wines, also from Italy (Chianti).
