Oshikoji Okada

Tonight we enjoyed a kaiseki Japanese multiple course dinner (12 normally, we opted for 8!) at this little known gem of a restaurant (fellow diners who eat here 3-4 times per year tell us that even most Japanese don’t know this place exists). It has to include 5 methods of cooking (or not), 5 tastes... (see last photo) & 5 colours. What an experience watching this Master Chef at work! His slicing alone was done with precision & a control that put me in mind of the Samuri. Lovely man! Great atmosphere, food divine (fine if, like us , you are broad minded re eating sashimi & yuba though). Yes it’s at a price, particularly cf other Japanese cuisine, but you’d never get this haute cuisine anywhere else in the world for this great value. Watching Chef craft his dishes was truly an experience in itself. Should definitely be on your bucket list if visiting Kyoto.
