“Tango Cuisine”
Tan is a small restaurant sitting quietly next to the Shirakawa River, Kyoto. The 2-storey restaurant is cozy and relaxing. Servers are friendly and accommodating. It is named “Tan” because it serves Japanese cuisine that is mostly cooked with ingredients from Tango Peninsula, Kyoto. Produce fr...om Tango, specifically the taro and pear, is fresh, but the 7-course lunch is quite under-seasoned and not necessary light. The salad made with pear, sweet pepper, pumpkin, wheat gluten with sesame dressing is mushy and heavy. The best dish is probably the flavorful Bonito Grilled with Straw.

“Superb Quality Set Lunch!”
My friend reserved a counter seat for me (facing Kyoto tower). It has a great view. The ambience was good. Patrons were mainly women, around 55 years & above. The lunch time crowd was heavy. I am always cautious about eating raw fish. But this lunch set has a few courses, including the Japanese... Sakae (I think). The presentation was obviously good and the quality of food was really superb! Excellent. The raw fish could melt in my mouth! There wasn’t any fishy after taste at all. Soups, side dishes, desserts, tea and many more. This is the authentic Japanese course meal which is worth a try. I feel it should be quite costly, based on the venue as well as the ‘butler’ service we received. If you are in Kyoto, have a go at it, no regrets. PLEASE make a reservation first.
