Kyo Sushi Ookini

Fantastic evening food exceptional, prepared with a degree of theatre and utterly delightful chefs who hosted us. We have had some really great food an experiences across Japan but food and nights like this with a combination of attention to detail and sheer joy. Great night. Bit off the beaten path... but short taxi ride (2000 yes) from kyoto station and shouldn't be off thr neater path for long. We had thr taster menu (3 between 4 of js) and they bespoke a raft if excellent vegan dishes.

Great place for sushi. Taoshi chef was the best. Beautiful small place filled with great atmosphere. Very traditional restaurant.

Wonderful Kaiseki dinner at this small restaurant (less than 10 seats at a counter, plus a couple of tables on the floor). Run by a friendly and engaging husband and wife team (limited English) plus a couple of staff. Delicious seafood-focused seasonal menu, very fairly priced considering the many... wonderful courses. You should reserve in advance (may need to go through your hotel to do so), as it’s a small place and they buy fresh fish and vegetables for the day based on who’s coming.

We just returned to Ookini for a 2nd time. Its a 20 minute taxi from JR Station. We had an omakase meal and everything was delicious and well paced. It's a small restaurant and intimate. We spoke with other diners and that added to the fun. Price was about $180 for the 2 of us.
