This small place is a hidden gem in Kyoto! Do not let the lack of English menu or website scare you; our hotel concierge was very helpful with reservations. This restaurant is off the main street and is run by an older couple with the veteran chef working his magic right behind the counter. Everyt...hing is highly authentic, from the shelves filled with intricate tableware to an impressive collection of craft sake. The chef plates everything beautifully, every dish is a work of art and a feast for both the eyes and mouth (wish I had taken more photos but didn’t want to be disrespectful). Sake pairings are included with dinner, and the service is impeccable. Even though the chef speaks little English, he’s adept at Google translating things on his phone whenever he needs to communicate or emphasize something. The clientele is mostly Japanese; in fact, the chef explained that we were seated next to a well-known calligrapher who’s a frequent guest. This is well worth repeated visits!
