Orudei Dining Kazahana

Our tour company for some reason picked this, although nice, restaurant inside a hotel (Kyoto Tokyu Hotel) for one of our lunches - it was a combo of some buffet and then the main dish, which was a piece of chicken with veggies - not the usual Japanese food one would hope to eat but I can't blame th...e restaurant. However, the Japanese part about it was the very strawberry dessert corner - during April visit strawberries were served and sold everywhere and I must admit the quality of these dessert was great and very tasty, which saved the experience for us :) There hotel looks very unassuming from the street but once inside and you take the escalator down to the restaurant you can see a pretty cool design of this place, much more appealing than the outside

Judging by the reviews, I thought it would be fantastic. The food was mediocre at best. The menu was very limited. I guess Americans would like it, not being very discerning about food. I was very disappointed.

After a long day of travel and walking around, we just wanted a nice dinner without going too far. I’m usually weary of hotel restaurants but the food here was good and they had different prefix menus as well as al la cart. I enjoyed the service and the views of the little garden.

My wife and I decided we'd have a nice meal 1/2 way through our trip and very glad we picked Kazahaba as the food was amazing, everything was fresh and beautifully presented. I'm not a big fish fan but even I enjoyed the scallops and roe, the beef was cooked perfectly. And the staff where great ...there when you needed them but not hovering. Would definitely recommend.
