“A small, charming and most wonderful French meal in Kyoto.”
We showed at opening, 530 PM, as we didn’t have a reservation. The restaurant was a brief walk from our hotel and we were exhausted from travelling on a very hot day. Our exhaustion soon disappeared as we experienced fantastic French fare (which compared most favorably to the best meals that we had ...experienced in France 5 months ago!j. The aromas from cooking soon delighted our senses. A Sancere soothed our travel aches and we embarked upon a delicious meal that delighted us all. It was as if we had our own private chef. Very, very delicious indeed! And the pricing was very good for the top quality that we experienced.

“Better than the restaurants in France”
Amazing French food, very authentic. Everything we had was exquisite. A one man show which was quite impressive. A very talented chef. The Sancerre and Chinon wines paired well with our beef, lamb, fish and risotto. For the quality, the price was reasonable. We will be back later this week.

“Amazing cozy restaurant”
When we walked in; we felt we are in someone’s kitchen. Very small and quaint restaurant. The restaurant owner is the hostess, waiter, cook and server. He does everything including doing dishes. He cooks real food (fresh ingredients). Foods are amazing. We order the 5 courses. What a surprise!!...! We enjoyed our dinning experience very much

“Stumbled upon an amazing experience.”
We stumbled upon this restaurant while walking the backstreets of Kyoto near our hotel. Went back to the hotel, looked up the restaurant’s (rudimentary) website, read the couple of positive reviews here and took a chance on a walk-in booking. We were ushered in by the genial proprietor (a one man m...aître de, chef, waiter, and bottle washer) and with a mix of English, French and Japanese facilitated by Google translator had a wonderful meal with a half bottle of gorgeous French wine. Could not recommend this place more highly and we will likely go back tomorrow night time and space permitting.

“Paris in Kyoto”
Chinon is an intimate cafe with four tables and a counter facing the kitchen. The chef and proprietor, SAKA Yukio, studied and worked extensively in France before returning to open his own place. The menu features a lovely variety of fresh meat, fish, and vegetable appetizers and entrees, a modestly...-priced but excellent wine selection (we only tried the reds), and some fine, classic desserts. We were staying nearby and liked it so much we came back for a second delightful dinner. There are more pictures on the rudimentary website, which can be found at chinon-dot-shop.
