“Appalling service, average food, racist staff.”
Given the number of amazing cafes and patisserie in Osaka, it's beyond me why, with such an appalling business model, anybody comes here more than once. I also find it highly ironic that the staff at the Namba Cafe Street store are so rude to non-Japanese people - there's clearly an issue with goi...ng to a British cafe if one is actually British? For the record, I am a resident of Japan and speak perfectly functional Japanese - the seating manager at this store, after patronisingly barking some katakana English in my face, proceeded to try and seat 3 groups of Japanese people who were waiting after us, refusing to even acknowledge that my group (two other non Japanese people) were waiting. Their service staff failed to take our orders correctly. I asked for drinks before food; they came more than 20 minutes after we had finished. I had to ask THREE times for our water to be topped up. Our meals came at totally different times, despite the orders being the same. This was accompanied by a clear dismay from staff that they had to deal with 'that group of foreigners.' (We all live here and we all speak Japanese). I'm used to bare-faced racism in Japan. I'm used to shop staff hacking up elementary school level katakana English at me, assuming that a foreign face must belong to a lazy moron. But this place just takes the piss. If you want to chill with unremarkable processed food, staff who would rather not deal with you and screaming kids climbing up the walls, this is the place for you. Above all, the prices are far above what they should be for terrible service and unremarkable menu. I write this review in English as a warning to other foreigners, whether you're a tourist or a resident of Japan; don't bother with this place. Osaka has far better to offer.

“My regular cafe when in Namba”
I hope I have picked the correct café to do this review.........Eikokuya is a café in Café Street in Namba area. I have visited this café many times now and it is always on our list to return especially for lunch when we are spending time in Namba area. The café has two floors for serving. I have o...nly ever been on the floor upstairs as I believe this is the non-smoking floor. Each time I have visited I have been served by the same lovely waitress who really gives great customer service and is very efficient in her job. The décor of this café is very old fashioned English with a variety of antique clocks around the room. The furniture could be from a Victorian era with lovely polished timber tables and chairs. There is an extensive menu to choose from and value for money sets. I usually have the sandwich and tea set, which is served with beautiful English cups and saucers. If we have arrived a little late for lunch and just want to enjoy afternoon tea the chiffon cake set is very popular with my daughters. There are also hot meals on the menu. Tea, coffee, juices and other beverages are on offer, but we usually like to have our special outing of "High Tea" as we call it! This is a popular café and is always busy so be there early for lunch so you don't have to wait. I know you will enjoy!!!
