A great find for a casual dinner that met the high food standards of my French husband. A Michelin star is deserved in our book! Excellent quality ingredients and preparation. The restaurant interior is simple, but the food and wine make up for it. A must go while in Kyoto. Bon appétit

Me and my girlfriend planned our trip to Japan last-minute and were struggling to find a place to eat dinner in Kyoto. We stumbled upon Bistro Grelot, located one block off the very crowded Hanamikoji-dori , and were so surprised by how peaceful and quiet it was compared to that touristy street. We ...walked into the restaurant and were immediately greeted by the Chef, Tomo (sp?). People who complained about the service are crazy – the fact that the two chefs also serve your food only added to the experience as you get the chance to actually interact with them! Definitely do the Chef’s choice menu! Literally every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. I cannot believe this restaurant wasn’t packed! We will definitely come back again when we are in Kyoto. Thanks, Tomo!!!

This wonderful restaurant in Kyoto's Gion district is a must for anyone who loves Japanese/French food. My wife and I were in Kyoto recently for close to a week and had three meals here. The food is delicious. The staff is friendly and gracious. Surprisingly inexpensive for the quality of the fo...od (not that it is cheap), and a nice wine list. My only reservation is that I hope to return soon and I fear too much praise will make it difficult to get seated.

After a week of generally excellent Japanese food , my wife and I decided to try Bistro Grelot , for a change of both scenery and palette. We were not disappointed. Whilst the broader menu is very French in style, there are some local influences which add to the taste and enjoyment. For example, lot...us is added to the vegetables accompanying the confit of duck . Melon is added to the accompaniments to creme brûlée. If you sit at the bar you can enjoy watching the 2 chefs work their magic and chat with them as well. The wine list has some nice variety and accompanies an excellent menu. Whilst the 2 chefs seem to run everything , which might slow some elements of your evening down , the quality of your food more than makes up for it in my view. I know the competition is stiff in Kyoto , with many great dining places, but Bistro Grelot is right up there based on our wonderful dining experience.
