“Great food and atmosphere”
On top of Hotel Okura is the restaurant that looks towards the mountains around Kyoto. We were there just after sunset and the views are beautiful. We had dinner here the last night of our 2 weeks in Japan and had the Filet and shrimp and the meal was very good. We sat at the grill and the chef was... great, the cooking display was great and the food was great. It was our 1st time seeing the shrimp live on the grill … talk about fresh! A bit on the expensive side but if you can swing it we would definitely suggest!

“Simply superb”
I decided to spoil myself and have a degustation dinner at Pittoresque and was not disappointed. Starting with some champagne the menu was: Pate de foie gras Fried garfish - little morsels of crispness Salmon with caviar and white asparagus - the caviar popped with flavour against the salmon Consom...me with mushrooms, scallops, mussels and broad beans - very delicate Sea bream with framboise butter sauce - wow Lamb with seasonal vegetables - perfectly cooked Brie and an ash chevre with chestnut jam Lemon sorbet with strawberry coulis - nice contrast between the tart of the lemon and the sweet strawberries Chocolate mouse cake - this was selected from a very large dessert trolley (and many people were having more than once choice) Coffee and petit fours An absolutley magnificent dinner with superb service.

“Excellent views and exquisite French cuisine with Japanese touch”
Located on the 17F of the Kyoto Okura hotel, the restaurant only has 7-8 tables and a private room (probably sits 10-15). It has to be booked in advanced - at least 2 days ahead according to the website of the hotel. The view from the full glass windows of the restaurant is an overlooking of the Ka...mo river. The theme of the cuisine is French, but there is a lot of Japanese elegance added to the courses served. As there is an exhibition of Monet's work in the city, the restaurant had a "Monet" course which is value for money. There are other courses which are just as good though priced higher. Presentation of the course served was artful and not letting down the name of Monet. We highly recommend to try the set courses as the combinations prepared by the chefs will tickle your palette. It was a nice finish to choose any amount of dessert from a carte of more than 10 options.
