A "Fashion Building" located at the corner of Dogenzakahita crossing at Dogenzaka 2-chome in Shibuya-ku of Tokyo. The building houses 121 popular shops including "SLY" and "CECIL McBEE" and has been absolutely loved by young women in their late teens and 20's. The name, "109" comes from "Tokyu (homophones for 10 and 9)" since the building's entrepreneur is Tokyu Malls Development Corporation and also because the shops operate from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Young people also call it "Marukyu." The unique cylindrical building was designed by Minoru Takeyama who is known for his post-modern architecture. The building is also used as an advertising pillar of popular idols and new fashion. The façade of the building viewable from Shibuya Scramble Crossing can be said to represent the townscape of Shibuya. The entrance area of 109 is also used as an event site.
