The Kakunodate District in Nakasugasawa Kakunodatemachi, Senboku-shi, Akita Prefectur,is a castle town located in the northern part of Senboku plains. Many samurai houses and other buildings remain in Kakunodate, which is why it's also called the "Little Kyoto of Michinoku". It is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in the Tohoku region visited by many tourists. Kakunodate is also famous for its cherry blossoms. 162 of the about 450 weeping cherry trees lined up along Bukeyashiki Street are designated as a Special National Treasure, and the row of cherry blossom trees along the Hinokinai River Bank are designated as National Scenic Beauty. Akita Prefecture is also a wonderland of good food, and besides typical Akita dishes such as Inaniwa noodles, Kiritanpo or Hinai chicken, Kakunodate also has its own specialty desserts such as "naruto mochi" or "coffee Zenzai" you cannot afford to miss when you visit.
