“Not real German food”
Don’t expect authentic food Unfortunately, the food is not authentic German. The Pork knuckle is very dry and the skin is far away from crispy, more like rubber. For this price it’s a shame. The Sauerkraut is also not like it should be. It’s sweet. The Sausages are more or less acceptable. The quali...ty must be much higher for that price. The drinks are ok. The atmosphere is like in a Waiting-hall of a train station. I can not recommend this Restaurant

“Set up for tour groups”
I came here looking for good beer. It was ok, but nothing special. The dark beer I had was inferior to most others I have tried, both European and Japanese. The ambience of the hall was nice and it was well set up for large groups, but fails to live up to being a premium beer establishment. You woul...d be better off buying some premium Yebisu, Suntory or major label European beer from the Aeon supermarket or convenience store based purely on taste and variety.

“Beer was solid. I wanted to like it.”
Beer was all traditional German Lagers. Clean and well done. But they'd be more interesting if they had some more obscure German styles; Keller Bier, etc. Food was just OK (I'm half German and have spent a LOT of time in Germany) The hall was nice. Reasonable facsimile of a Bier Halle. But...the ban...d was a 30 or more piece brass band just blowing the place out. I couldn't even talk to my colleagues. We split for a small, QUIET, brewpub.

“Great architecture, atmosphere, and beer!”
This place is hands-down one of the most impressive restaurants I've been to in Japan. It's impressive architecturally--it really looks like a real German beer hall. And the sheer size of the place alone is certainly refreshing given how small most restaurants are in Japan. The food was good (though... a bit on the pricey side) and the beer was good and just the atmosphere and the look of the place was really wonderful--I felt like I was at Oktoberfest. It's also a non-smoking restaurant as well, which is a rarity to find in Japan. I would definitely recommend it to everyone visiting Hamamatsu/the Shizuoka area!

“Nice place but lighten up, already!”
On the plus side, this huge, German-style beerhall is impressive architecturally, with high, big-beamed ceilings, thick wood tables and shiny, copper vats in the brewery. The waitresses wear cute dirndls and the service is prompt. The food is passable and the beer is good. On the other hand, the mi...c-headset-wearing hostess will prevent you from waltzing cheerfully into the dining area and joining your friends or choosing your own table- it's all very nitpicky and you must wait while she discusses logistics with command central. That level of organization and stuffiness can be forgiven here in Japan but what irks a beer lover is the fact that they do not let you sit outside on a beautiful spring or fall day in their beer garden! They have a perfect, central courtyard with nice, big tables and chairs and umbrellas but the place is never in use and they absolutely refuse your request (with no explanation given) to take your Weizen and enjoy it in the fresh air. They even have another open-air zone next to the street that I believe is called the beer garden which seems to never be set up for outdoor dining. Was zum Teufel? (what the deuce?) Two demerits for you party poopers!
