“Take the Central Tower Plaza express elevator to the 12th floor at Nagoya Station for the famous Hitsumabushi Eel!!!”
Nagoya is famous for its eel -- especially eaten in three ways. Loved the ease of jumping off the shinkansen and taking the express elevator to the 12th floor to the Hitsumabushi restaurant. Check the hours for lunch and dinner. We just missed lunch, but returned for dinner. It is pricey but so yumm...y.

“Expensive but huge portions and excellent service ”
Had lunch here on 24 Oct 2019 and one is supposed to first write the name and # of guests on the sheet of paper before waiting for your turn (though I was next in line on the paper and there was no one else waiting). We didn’t have to wait long before we were ushered in. We ordered 2 of the classi...c grilled eel hitsumabuchi (around Yen 3,800 each) and 1 beef hitsumabuchi (Yen 3,520 after taxes) which took some time as they would ensure all 3 hitsumabuchi were served at the same time. The soup pots were only served later after we had requested for them for photo-taking purposes. I had the classic grilled eel and it was yummy - portion size was large with substantial amounts of rice. One can enjoy this dish 4 ways and interestingly, I loved all 4 ways (though typically in Singapore my favorite way is the last way - with soup and all the condiments)! Totally wiped cleaned the bowl in minutes. It was expensive but I do not regret given the location (Nagoya station’s Takashimaya), portion, quality and the service.

“Great hitsumabushi”
This is where we had my first hitsumabushi and it did not disappoint. They serve it 2 ways. Tokyo style and Nagoya style. Of course we tried the Nagoya style.

“Great restaurant to try Hitsumabushi ”
Learning that Hitsumabushi is one of the local dishes in Nagoya, discovered this restaurant on the 12 floor of JR Central Tower. They had different sets for Hitsumabushi including one with beef instead of the usual grilled eel. Service was quick but more important the food was great. After trying H...itsumabushi, unagi won’t taste the same. Restaurant serves two types of eel - one is the Tokyo style which is not as sweet as the version in Nagoya. Personally I prefer the Nagoya style but the Tokyo version is just as flavoursome.

“Traditional Japanese dining experience ”
We were pleasantly surprised to be allocated a separate dining room to enjoy traditional Japanese dining. The room was shared with others and was a good experience except for one couple who could not control their child who was very annoying and disrespectful to others. Pros: Good dinner Hitsumabus...hi set was available at ¥3980 per person (see photo of set). The Unagi was delicious - it was succulent and flavoursome. It was also a generous serving with a large amount of rice. Cons: the service was very slow. Our dinner set was brought out incomplete. I had to ask for the pot of soup which was meant to be part of the set.
