Miyabian

Arrived 30 min before closing for lunch under relatively heavy rain. Spare us cloth to help us dry up. Had the Soba set and one of the better soba I ever had. Paied with excellent service, this is a must visit lacebif you are in Takayama!

This is a wonderful restaurant in Takayama with a great service from its staff. We had a grea lunch and enjoyed it so much thT we asked where could we buy some of the ingredients. One of the staff wrote a note for us to get some of the products from their local supplier. Wonderful experience.

My partner and I had a wonderful evening last night. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. I had the duck meat with cold soba noodles (handmade!) and my husband had the shrimp tempura with warm soba. Both came with a delicious broth and various sides (including wasabi root and a grat...er for you to make your own wasabi paste!). It was all very reasonably priced too. We ended up meeting another couple about to start their Japan travels and the kind owners stayed open way beyond the closing time to accommodate our conversation - which we hadn't realised at the time! Would implore everyone to come here if you're visiting Takayama. Note - make sure you reserve a table beforehand (I messaged via Facebook and had a response within a minute confirming my booking!)

We enjoyed the delicious food and found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The meal itself had a lovely authentic feel as you grated you own wasabi along with a few other special things! We also we're lucky enough to sit next to a couple who were just starting their Japan trip! We h...ad fun chatting with them about our experiences so far! Miyabian should be on your list of places to visit!

My husband and I arrived there at 6:40 on a Thursday night -I recommend arriving early or even better booking a table since there are only a few seats and the restaurant tends to get quickly packed. Miyabian specialises in soba, with a decent choice of cold and hot options, with or without meat and... with or without tempura. We went for the kamo seiro soba (duck meat soba) which was absolutely outstanding. The cold soba noodles were delicious and the tasty, juicy duck meat was a perfect addition to the broth that, thanks to its incredibly well-balanced flavours (and a most welcome hint of yuzu) now ranks amongst the very best broths I’ve ever had in Japan -soba, udon and ramen alike. Will definitely go back next time I’m in Takayama. Price: below 1000 yen to 1800 yen depending on the dish (the kamo seiro soba was 1450 yen). Vegetarian options are available. Service: good. I don’t know about the staff’s language skills as we spoke Japanese with them and the other clients that night were all locals, but they have an English menu, so non-Japanese speakers shouldn’t have a hard time ordering!
