“Fun Place to Go with Friends, Don't Stay for The Food”
I had been to Rio Brewing a couple of times for beer and really liked it, so one evening my partner and a friend and I decided to eat there. A word to the wise, this place gets very busy on weekdays as it attracts the office crowd so if you plan to go, particularly on a Thursday or Friday, I recomme...nd a reservation. As you can see from the photos, the food is standard brewery fare, but none of it was particularly great. Admittedly, I had never had Chicago deep dish pizza before, and trying it outside of the U.S. for the first time probably was not the best way to get a real feel for this dish, but overall I did not like it. Everything is just average. Service is fine, and the atmosphere is typical brewery style. I would go back to have a beer, but probably would not order anything but fries.

“Expect to be ripped off.”
Awful experience. They delivered some pork stuff we didn’t ask for (vegetarians) and then charged us the price of a meal. The beer was ok but they we’re out of 2 of the wines requested. We even placed our own order.

“Pay the Gaijin (Foreigner) Tax”
What a disappointment. Way over priced for barely mediocre fare. You are paying for the restaurant’s prime location rent, not for quality food or service. The beer selection is impressive, seasonal, and represents some of the better Japanese craft breweries. However, expect to pay ~$6 USD for a 6o...z pour. Craving true Chicago deep dish? Keep looking. You could do better with a pie crust and jar of Ragu spaghetti sauce. But what really drove me crazy was the wait. It took over an hour to get our food. Fellow westerners seemed to experience similar extended wait times. Yet, the local clientele who arrived after us were served multiple courses in 15-20 minutes. We call this discriminatory behavior the “gaijin tax”. Lastly, a kitchen staff member almost injured my son by hurriedly running through doorways. A staff member just completed his shift and rather calmly leave the restaurant, he left by running through the rear exit shouting comments to his coworkers over his shoulder. The door knob would have violently slammed into my son’s forehead had I not been present. Do yourself a favor and keep moving. There are many excellent alternatives at Midtown and throughout the Akasaka/Roppongi neighborhood.

“Not a great experience.”
Way overpriced. Craft beers are so small. Pizza wasn’t great, either. We ordered a large pizza with double toppings, but not much ingredients inside. They don’t let you take leftovers home. They tell you to leave after two hours even if there are lots of tables without customers. They explain that i...t is a rule of Tokyo Midtown, which was actually not true. No way to go back to this place.

“So close, but nope”
The food is decent, the beer is creative (if not a little pricey), but the place falls down due to: ugly lighting that feels like a Royal Host, music that is simply annoying, staff shouting all the time while I’ve been sitting here for 10min and ignored, despite it being empty. Won’t be back
