Ajidokoro Sahe

Blink twice and you’ll miss this hole-in-the-wall, screaming deal of a traditional Japanese restaurant in Higashiyama, Kanazawa (¥8,000 pp prix fixe for ~8 courses at the time of this review). Three of us had the place to ourselves mid-week, savoring a multicourse meal prepared in front of us by the... namesake chef and his daughter. The food was accessible and delightful, and with some smiling, nodding, and help from Google Translate, we had a great “conversation” over the course of the evening. This was a uniquely enjoyable dining experience and a lucky find for a handful of Americans who were nearly out of luck for a place to eat on a Tuesday.
