“Stellar cuisine”
My wife and I just had a week in Kanazawa, Japan. All but one of the seven restaurants we went to were excellent. Outstanding was the two Michelin star place Zeniya. The seasonal ingredients and the artful presentation are of the highest standard. We also recommend the Tsubajin restaurant. It is a ...350-year-old in a private house. We were given a traditional room that overlooked an enclosed garden. The waitress, dressed in a pale blue kimono, brought us a succession of delicious dishes: abalone, a mountain and seafood platter, conger eel, soup, sashimi [flounder, shrimp]; grilled sea perch and a “turban” shell; duck stew; stonefish, hairy crab, eel soup and rice, fruit, and finally the matcha tea. Yum, yum!

“Price/quality is out of balance.”
Diner. It was far too expensive for the quality of the meal. We paid 300.000 Y for a more than average meal. Very disappointing.

“Expensive, good but not particularly special”
We had the sushi menu here which consisted of nine chef-made sushi's and came down to about a hundred dollars per person. We have had quite a few kaiseki-style/related dinners before and wouldn't rate this one particularly impressive. The chef was very charming, the sushi good, the ambiance nice (a ...little austere, as it goes) but it did not add up to a particularly memorable experience. We had a sushi lunch at Omicho Market the next day and actually thought the sushi was better tasting there. Also instead of the little over two hundred dollars at Bankei we paid about thirty-five for two at the market :)

“Nice Dinner Experence!”
Located on the 6th floor of the Hotel Nikko Kanazawa, this restaurant provides Japanese cuisine. The food choices include progressively priced multiple course selections as well al a carte. The least expensive course selection is about $ USD. They all include soup, rice, desert and coffee as well as... a wide variety of main dishes. The al a carte choices vary greatly depending on what is selected and you can easily consruct an inexpensive meal. The food is very good and atttactively presented. Wine is available by the glass, for about $16 USD, or by the bottle. Beer is also available.
