“Good but not great”
We ordered the set menu and it wasn't outstanding. Maybe we didn't choose the best one. However, the yakitori was really tasty and the tamagoyaki was perfectly cooked. Not sure if this is a branch of Yamasan at Omicho as they have the same writing of their name. Had we known they were the same resta...urant, we would have ordered the sushi instead. We did really love the extra fresh sushi at Yamasan Omicho.

“Delicious Kaisen don”
We had the recommended kaisen-don that resembled a sashimi tower. There was variety of fish slices and crab claw, prawns and sea urchin sprinkled with gold flakes on top of rice bowl. Bowl was reasonably priced given the quality, portion.

“Ultra fresh”
Decided to head down to Omicho market early on my last day in Kanazawa with half a mind to have breakfast there. Did some random Googling and found the name Yamasan had merited a couple of (positive) mentions. Located the restaurant and waited my turn behind a solitary chap. Compared to the tourist ...traps with snaking queues at Tsukiji (some of which practise an inexplicable customer selection - and rejection - basis), this already seemed a much more reasonable choice of restaurant in which to have breakfast on a cold morning. Anyway, to the food - ordered a Kaisen don (seafood rice bowl) which when served shortly thereafter resembled a work of art more than a food item. The sheer amount of stuff topping the bowl was a sight to behold, one so perfectly arrayed it made one reluctant to start tucking in and thereby messing the meticulously assembled display. Once past that, the freshness of the seafood simply dispelled whatever lingering thoughts I had about wrecking the beautifully laid out bowl. The qualities of Japanese rice have probably been well documented elsewhere and deserves another discussion of its own, but to someone who is not a fan of rice, this was the perfect complement to the seafood laid out on it. Glad to have left with a taste of Kanazawa and Omicho.

“Pretty Seafood Rice Bowl”
Cosy place with friendly service. Had the full seafood rice bowl which is their most common order the night we were there. Fresh and good. Coupled with the Nama Biru, what a deadly combination. Place was not packed so we could easily get our seats at the counter.

“Good sushi”
Really fresh and reasonably priced sushi/sashimi. We came here for a late breakfast after walking through Omicho market. We all ordered the various donburis (fish on rice) on their menu. I had a crab, roe and sea urchin mix - it was excellent - the ikura (salmon roe) was of a high quality and not to...o salty. We added kabako-gani (female snow crab) on the side. The staff don't speak much english but they were very friendly.
