“Great food, no bargain, quite expensive but really good food.”
Great food, no bargain, quite expensive but really good food. It feels a bit strange, maybe like a ramen restaurant since you sit and all you see is the wall against you... The kitchen is behind the counter-wall which is quite high so you actually do not see anything, unless you stand. Behind us t...here was a long window with a view of the street. I think they should have designed the restaurant the other way round, so you could enjoy the street's view, instead of wall. Food was beautiful and very delicious. Another strange thing I find in many up-end restaurants in Japan is that the chef never talk to you, not in the beginning, not in the middle and not at the end, NOTHING. It is like they have too much of a pride, why should I go and thank you...?? I do not think they do because of some bad intention, just too much pride maybe... Anywhere ells in the world, the chef would come out at least once and ask if everything is fine, did you enjoy and small talk... OH well, This is Japan I suppose, but I have seen some restaurants that do otherwise. It makes you feel going there again.

“A very nice surprise in Toyama for anyone looking for a non-Japanese restaurant (Sunflower Cafeteria)”
There are many good Japanese restaurants in this city, but finding a good non-Japanese one seemed as a more difficult task. We found this one quite by chance and it turned to be a great surprise and a very pleasant evening. In spite of being a non-Japanese restaurant there was no one around to speak... a word in English and this was certainly a challenge. Neither the owner, nor the chef nor the waitress, nor any of the few young guests around spoke anything but Japanese. To make things more complicate, we eat gluten-free and we are basically vegetarian (except for some fish, which is unavoidable anyway in Japan). Still, everybody went there out of their way to communicate with us with the help of hand-waiving, Goggle translate and some pictures of the dishes they offer, that can be found in Google maps (Indeed, You can find this restaurant under the name Sunflower Cafeteria in Google Maps). We ended up having superb food and receiving a superb service. The waitress was very helpful and she was obviously happy for having helped us have this great dinner. Don't miss this place if you are in Toyama. It seems that making a reservation is important. We came without it and this was a problem, initially. But again, they discussed the situation among them for some minutes, and then started t move things around until they did find two seat for us. Great place and great evening for us!
