“Great national food, friendly service”
While everything was authentic to the national Japanese restaurant (food, service), we were able to sit behind a usual table with our feet on the floor (not on the heals). For me this was a great advantage.

“Affordable, Lots of Traditional Food Choices, Great Atmosphere”
After getting lost finding my way out of a castle park, and walking what seemed like 2 hours in a ghost town (well, city), I finally reached the front of my hotel, Toyoko Inn Hirosaki Ekimae. I was exhausted and it was night time already. I decided to take my dinner first before retiring back to my ...room in freezing Hirosaki (one of Japan's coldest regions). I found Fukufukuya at the ground floor, left of my hotel's entrance. What's more inviting is the affordable prices on display plus they have regional specialty. In this case, it 's the Butadon Pork Donburi Rice Bowl, a Tokachi specialty, for just 598 yen. I also ordered a rice ball - shredded dry Hokkaido kelp at 228. Inside, you have to take your shoes off, put it in a locker, then pick a spot: either a cubicle with a tatami mat and low table, or a long table with sliding doors for a more private dining experience. I chose the latter. The restaurant is frequented by locals who enjoy their dinner a little too rowdily. I love the atmosphere though... rich in local color, and there's good service from the servers, though my order took some time to arrive. Cheap food, lots of choices, great Japanese atmosphere.

“Beer stop”
After walking around town, I dropped in for refreshment. You need to take off your shoes and store them in lockers and walk in your socks to the dining areas. Lots of tables and sit-down tatami areas. I had a beer and a glass of red wine. Great stop. This seems like an izakaya but they've added... lunch set meals which looked good with low prices. The evening menu looks great, izakaya style. This place if next door, to the right as you face Toyoko Inn Hirosaki Ekimae.

“Fresh, fantastic & great value”
Located beneath the Toyoko Inn at Hirosaki Station. Private booths. Seafood sensations artfully presented. We enjoyed every dish. So glad we stopped by for dinner.
