“Tsugaru food and music doesn't get any better than this.”
Aiya is really popular with locals but not a really big place, so reservations are recommended. The food is delicious and the musical performance is magical. The Shamisen Master has won the All Japan Competition many, many times. This is a where to go for an authentic Tsugaru experience.

“Excellent music”
Lots of shamisen bars in town have closed down, including ones I never thought I'd see leave, but this recently opened one is still there, offering a 21st century take on a century old folk music style, with drinks and food near Hirosaki University. This is a must see place if you visit Hirosaki.

“great izakaya food and drink, music, vibe”
overall rating: 4-1/4 stars Aiya was fun! The izakaya-style ground-floor space accommodates under 25 diners, so making a dinner reservation via the shop's website was a good move. The shamisen music and singing were wonderful. Although the menu was written in Japanese, knowledge of just a few wor...ds (sashimi, tempura, junmai gingo, etc.) should suffice...or maybe, like me, you will get lucky and be served by a friendly English-speaking staff member/musician. The food, drink, and vibe were great. I recommend Aiya!
