Sakesakanashun Mitsuishi

Went to this restaurant I chose from a list of restaurants recommended by the hotel we stayed at. I was a bit concerned as the quality of the seafood I had tried a couple of years back in central Aomori was very poor and was hoping for better luck on this occasion. As people have written, it was dif...ficult even for a Japanese resident to find the restaurant. We went up the stairs to the second floor. The restaurant was much more spacious than I had expected, with table counter seats surrounding the kitchen area, a large tatami room with tables for seated dining as well as some private function rooms in the back. We were shown to a table in the tatami room. A greeting staff asked us to let them know if it got too cold as they had their ventilation running at full power. There had been a cluster of Covid 19 cases in nearby Hirosaki. My wife and I chose a couple of local dishes to share. We had local squid and scallop sashimi, a deer steak amongst others. I'm personally not that fond of wild game food but enjoyed the deer steak as it didn't have that typically gamish taste. The local sashimi was very fresh as it should be and the sake I chose to go with it、Hohai from Hirosaki made a good partner. Other than the fact that there was a merry party of visitors from Tokyo in one of the private rooms, the restaurant had a quiet atmosphere, the staff were friendly and the prices reasonable (as long as you don't select their expensive sake).

I reserved Mitsuishi by phone about a week before travelling to Aomori. It was lucky in a way since my wife and I would definitely not have gone in had we walked passed it. The restaurant is on the second floor which is accessed by an elevator which is through a door next to a garage.The area in fro...nt of the elevator is a bit messy and doesn't reflect the restaurant at all. We were given a private room and served by friendly staff. The menu was fairly standard izakaya fare and the food not bad at all, but I can only rate it as average. Price-wise it is pretty good. I can't say I found a better izakaya in Aomori although there are a few similar; however, I have far better close to home.

Mitsuishi (三ツ石) is a really great restaurant and it’s too bad it’s thick with cigarette smoke. We persevered and the food was great but it was hard to enjoy—it’s been years since I’ve been in a restaurant with heavy cigarette smoke. If you don’t mind the smoke this is a great izakaya or Japanese pu...b where you order many small dishes and share with the table. You will need some Japanese skills to read the menu as most of the items are not pictured. The restaurant has an entrance that is easily overlooked with a stair and elevator adjacent to a parking garage that leads up to the second floor. Look for the sign with 三ツ石 on the outside wall to the left of the entrance.

This is a great little restaurant, the service and food is excellent. We had the 3600¥ meal, it was excellent. We were amazed at the quatity of food. The service was very personalised and excellent. The food was very good well presented fresh and very tasty, a great experience. Do not let the e...ntrance put you off go up in the lift and experience a great night.

We have never had a bad meal in Japan after two visits and on our last visit this was one of the best. Very friendly and helpful, a fun evening with great food. Would definitely go back.
