“A real traditional restaurant”
While in Hiroshima we arranged to meet friends that we had not seen for about five years at Hamaken., it was a wet warm night but this restaurant is quite close to Hiroshima Station so easy to get to I give this place a excellent rating not only because of the food and service but because it is very... local, traditional , casual and looks like it has been there a long time. If your looking for a posh restaurant this is not for you The staff were friendly and on the ball all night, we arrived about 6.30 pm and it was after 11 pm when we left, a great time had by all. There is three levels to Hamaken , downstairs, Street level where we ate and upstairs, there were customers coming and going all night , a popular place it seems. We had many different type of fish, loved the grilled mackerel and all the Sashimi was scrumptious, it was the first time my Japanese friends had ever had eel Sashimi , very rare they said, all was super fresh, during the evening they informed us they had just received a delivery of mackerel and would we like to order mackerel Sashimi, yes please we answered and it was in front of us in no time , boy how fresh was that. We also enjoyed big grilled clams, very tasty. Another treat was a bowl of Sazae, they are like a very big sea snail, they had cut them up in the shell and we just had to fork the pieces out, delicious. We drank the local Saki all night which was good stuff. Really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of this original restaurant, for an authentic experience don’t miss it

“Good optipns close to the station”
In my one night/one day in hiroshima, came here twice. Fair price for gigantic oysters and sashimi set. No English menu and not all staf speak English, but was a fun adventure. Laid back surfer atmosphere
