“A nice surprise”
Simply stumbled upon this local gem which featured regional seafood cuisine done in local style. You have to want seafood or shabu shabu, table hot pot cooking. We went for the local mostly raw seafood. Hiroshima oysters are simply delicious and they are available raw or fried. The tofu and daik...on salad is unique and fresh. The fried sweet potatoes are so good! I wanted to try more dishes but filled up too quickly. Hiroshima sake is terrific with these dishes and the mostly local crowd seemed to be enjoying their food with Suntory beer. A lively atmosphere and good company. I’ll be back.

“Adventure into the unknown”
We approached this place a little hesitantly, as Gaijin and having been rudely refused entry to two other Japanese restaurants in Onomichi. We climbed the stairs expecting to be turned away. The staff warned that they had no English menus, after explaining that we understood this and were willing to... try anyway, the staff were really helpful. One young waiter in particular was really helpful. He had some English, we had some (scant Japanese) and we dined in style. We were guided by his recommendations and by what others were eating. It was a rewarding adventure. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. We had sweet potato, a magnificent raw seafood platter with octopus, shellfish as well as sashimi. We also had prawn tempura and fried octopus. Thanks for taking a chance on us!

“Rude and unwelcoming”
I had one of the rudest and most unwelcoming experiences I've ever had at a restaurant here. I suspect it was because I was foreign (Google reviews written by gaijin seem to echo my experience). Didn't even get the chance to eat - you walk up the stairs to face a peculiar, abrupt - "we're full" (eve...n when it's empty)... No attempt to try to fit you in - then or later... You really do feel like you're not wanted in here.

“Great izakaya!”
Wonderful food in an authentic Izakaya (pub) atmosphere! Private rooms are available upstairs . I loved the Daikon salad and hiya yakko (cold tofu) both served with freshly shaved bonito.
