“Japanese French cuisine doesn’t deserve its Michelin star because of its service flaws”

The meal was subtle, elegant and tasty (sea bream salad, lobster mousse, grilled grouper). All was formally presented well, though in a rather austere and somewhat bland environment. There was a certain stiffness in the service which I can understand when folks are just trying hard to be correct. Th...ey first seated us in a corner facing an unattractive frosted glass window, rather than towards the center of the room, like the other tables. The restaurant was not even half-full so we asked politely for a different table, which they graciously accommodated, The meal, after that, went really well. However, the weird slight cane at the end when we, the last table to be seated at 8pm, were asked to leave because the restaurant was closed. We had just finished our dessert. We checked our watches. It was only 10:15. Trust me, we are not the lingering types who over-stay their welcome. Also, the request contradicted the standard of dining to which this restaurant seemed to aspire.

“impolite and full of prejudice”

When we entered the almost empty restaurant with our elementary school-aged child who has already eaten in many Michelin star restaurants all over the world, we were left standing and waiting in the entrance region for about five minutes. Then finally an employe appeared to address us with only one... word and one sign: "Child" in combination with the Japanese crossed arms for "no". No "sorry", no further explanation or any other comment that would be regarded as polite or decent human behaviour in other areas of the world. What impressive ambassador of Japanese hospitality! The sad impression it left on our son was that he refused to try out another Japanese restaurant that night. Even if you don´t travel with children and therefore would be admitted, be aware of what kind of mindset you are supporting by your visit!

“Highly disappointing and impossibly worth a Michelin star”

SHORT Very very far away from a Michelin star: outrageously expensive for the delivered quality of tasteless, rough food and poor service. Simply forget this restaurant and search for another one if you are looking for some fine french dining. LONG We recently booked a table at the Ozawa restaura...nt in Hiroshima. It was meant to climax our trip in Japan. In the past, we visited many one to three Michelin star restaurants in several countries all over the world. Especially in Tokyo we enjoyed a fantastic dinner in a Michelin star restaurant. The dinner at Ozawa was not a delight. As we arrived, the personal clumsily took our coats. After being seated, we discovered that only one special menu was available (without a price on it): a French interpretation of the “wa”. While booking a table on the phone, we have not been informed that only a single menu would be served what could have been expected at is was at least not a bargain for 15.000 Yen. The long menu looked interesting and being French inspired, so we decided to stay. At the beginning, the “chef” of the restaurant took a microphone to explain something in Japanese probably related to his inspiration regarding the genesis of this menu and how it relates to autumn. Every dish coming on the table afterwards was a total deception: uninspired presentation, rough and flavorless. The combined ingredients (foie gras, caviar, raw fish...) seemed for our gums purely wasted. The appetizer listed on the menu was a joke: a fried ball of something spiked on a toothpick with a flat taste lying on a huge plate with 2 leaves of fried greens. The served ‘freshly squeezed orange juice’ was in reality from concentrate. The bread (baguette) was deep-frozen and reheated. The service was very far away from the level of a Michelin star restaurant: very slow refilling of the water glass (despite a not busy army of waiters), not respecting the serving etiquette and maladroit. After the 3rd dish, being a total mess from the consistency, taste and presentation perspective, we were so outraged that we decided to stop the disaster. This is the first time ever, that we asked to stop a menu and get the bill before its end. We had to pay for one of the two menus and for the drinks which was - to be honest - a joke. Nevertheless we paid and left. Considering the terribly poor overall package and the fact that no one presented any kind of excuse it felt extremely harsh. We would have loved to recommend this place but after this we will rather recommend to go elsewhere.

“Tasting Dinner was delicious”

My friend and I went to the Tasting Dinner last night and every single dish they brought out was so good. We weren't sure of how the portions would be, but we were very satisfied when we left. Service was good too. The price was also very reasonable at ¥5,000 per person.

Located at the Oriental Hiroshima Hotel, Ozawa is a fine dining French restaurant. It is a small up scales restaurant with an open kitchen. Very good food and service.
