The food at LIBERO tastes just as good as in Italy but at a much lower price. 6000 yen for 2 delicious appetizers and 1 perfect main course, accompanied by superb sourdough bread with airy crumb and crispy crust. It's a bit of a cheat to eat Italian in Japan, but make an exception and visit this co...zy restaurant. You won't regret the indulgence.

Who would have thought our best meal in Japan so far would be Italian! We tried this restaurant because it was close to our hotel, and the set menu for 6000 yen was excellent value. It started with a delicious crumbed anchovy in green(basil?) sauce which we mopped up with the best sourdough I’ve had... in ages - really crunchy crust with a flavoursome chewy centre. This was followed by a yummy snapper appetiser, and then a fantastic porcini pasta dish. It was creamy, cheesy, had loads of mushrooms and a generous pile of tender, fresh prosciutto on top. (There was a choice of 3 pastas, 3 main courses and 3 desserts). For main course my partner chose lamb, Hokkaido style, and I had the duck - also Hokkaido style. They were served with a scrumptious rich jus, polenta, and a few nicely cooked vegetables. For dessert I had a wonderful panacotta with chestnut ice-cream and my partner had an oven baked apple with ice-cream. By this stage we were feeling more than satisfied, but when we were offered home-made dried persimmon with canele we couldn’t resist! All dishes were served on elegant curved white china-different shapes to suit each dish. In addition to superb food we thoroughly enjoyed chatting (using google translate) with the chef and his wife (I think?) - both of whom were eager to explain the food to us, talk about their travels in Italy, and his training in Puglia. All in all this was a memorable experience. Thankyou so much!
