“Superb Lunch”
We did not stay at the hotel but had a 5 course authentic traditional Japanese lunch here. We had a bento box of assorted small bite size pieces. Underneath the bento box was Iwakuni sushi which is a large type of oshizushi. It is a thick layer of sweet vinegar sushi rice topped with lotus root, egg... and fish. Sometimes there are more layers. Accompanying the bento box was shashimi; bowl of cold soba noodles with shrimp, lotus and another vegetable tempera in a sweet sauce; a soup made with lotus root and carrots (very similar to the lotus root soup my mother makes but tastier); and a bowl of steamed egg custard with a mushroom on the bottom. All were delicious and filling. Located across the street from Kintaikyo Bridge (pale green building). There’s a stunning view of the bridge located on the 3rd floor in the hallway where the meeting rooms are. Definitely come here for an authentic meal specific to the Yamaguchi prefecture. The hotel offers both traditional Japanese and Western style rooms with an Onsen.
“Iwakuni - Sichuan Restaurant in Hotel”
I arrived late traveling from USA and was starving (airplane food)! They kept this restaurant open for me and a companion and even though it was late they never rushed us out. The food was top notch! I highly recommend trying this restaurant. Everyone was so very nice and the meal was VERY GOOD!
