“So so so salty!”
I love eel so I wanted to try the eel in Hiroshima as it is different from the eel rice elsewhere. This place doesn’t take reservations. We came at 5 and only waited a few minutes. The menu is basically just eel- large or small sizes. I wanted so badly to like this dish. The eel itself is interestin...g- it has a dense, more dry texture, which I did like. My issue with the dish was that it as incredibly salty. I’m not sure if I came on an off day but my tongue was numb from the salt by the end. I also was digging to the bottom trying to get to rice that hadn’t touched the eel as the sauce made the rice salty too. I ended up chugging water all night after. Again, I am not sure if I came on an off day but I wouldn’t come back here again, let alone line up.

“Anagomeshi”
Ueno has been around for a long time and is one of the best conger eel restaurant. Their speciality (and pretty much only dish )is Anagomeshi which consist of grilled conger eels on a bed of rice. Really worth a try when visiting Miyajima

“Conger eel ”
Ueno Anagomeshi is an old restaurant near JR Miyajimaguchi station. Their specialty is “conger eel on rice”. Since everyone comes to this restaurant orders it, they don’t have a menu. You just have a choice of big, medium or small portion. It is normal to wait for a while. When you arrive, write dow...n your name and wait for being called. Conger eel is not cheap, but delicious. Try at least once, while you are in Japan.

“Conger Eel, it's what's (all) for dinner”
Given that it was one of the specialties of the region, we had to try it. Small restaurant with seemingly always a wait, but worth it. The only negative is the language barrier if you are English speakers, and the fact that cold air rushes in every time someone leaves the restaurant.

“Best Conger EEL”
I was surprised at the taste of the anagomeshi here. I should say it was the best in Hiroshima by far. The donburi was simple but had a deep flavor to it. When you visit Miyajima, give it a try. You'll never regret it!
