Izakaya Bocco

We were in Hiroshima for one day and were excited about what the city could offer in terms of food experiences. The joy was therefore great when we found Bocco. We asked the chef to put together a menu for us, he asked at what price and we couldn't be happier with what we got. All the dishes tasted ...great and were prepared in a very delicate way. We also got to write a little greeting on the wall. Recommended 10/10!

...it's perfectly safe to go there solo, it's just that you will feel like a shag on a rock and, if you go early, there is no one to make conversation with. The cook/owner speaks OK English but conversation is forced and a bit awkward. The grilled beef tasted delicious but was let down by a too-salt...y dressing and a garnish of lettuce leaves out of a packet. There is an English menu but the names and descriptions of dishes left me none the wiser as to what was on offer, so ask. If you are near Hiroshima station, exit the station on the streetcar side and turn right. A two-minute walk later you will find a block of narrow streets containing little mum and dad restaurants similar to this one. Bocco seems to have a better reputation than most in its area, and, judging from the reviews, it floats many boats - just not mine.

Great food, great atmosphere. The chef/owner is a lovely genuine guy and speaks English if you need it. There are tables if they are more than two of you and you don't want to sit at the "bar". Grandma, mum and daughter all enjoyed this funky place. Ordered 7-8 dishes for 3 people Def. Recommend ...- it does get busy though.

What an amazing restaurant... atmosphere fantastic with the owner/chef super friendly and super down earth. We weren’t sure what to order so our host said he’d prepare a banquet style dinner for us. After asking if we had any allergies or if there was any food we didn’t particularly like he went to ...work... six or seven (we lost count) courses later and after eating the freshest and most expertly prepared food and sharing a few laughs and jokes we headed a short walk back to our hotel which was near the Hiroshima train station. Honestly this has been hands down the best meal we’ve had in Hiroshima... do yourself a favour folks... ahhh and the cost... very very very reasonable ...

We were just looking for nice Japanese food close to our hotel, and came to Bocco do because of the good reviews on trip advisor. Since we were not sure what to take, the chief offered to cook us a menu. We did not know what it would be in the end, but we were happy with every course, had some beer ...and Sake, lots of nice conversations with the staff and ended up paying ¥3500 for two including everything after five courses. If we come again to Hirishima we will definitely visit this place again. Lots of Japanese customers in this place.
