Machiya Kissa Miyakeshoten

A cosy, beautiful restaurant. As it is getting late for lunch on a wet day, we picked the first shop that caught our eyes. There are Japanese and usual table and chairs sitting in this place. We picked the Japanese style sitting. The lunch menu is limited, but the curry was good. No regrets The swe...ets menu is more elaborate, but I was too full for that after lunch. Price is reasonable too!

It was late afternoon on a cold December day and we longed for a warm place to stop for some hot tea and cake. But most cafes had already closed or featured big plastic ice cream cones outside. So we were delighted to see Miyakeshoten open with a menu posted, featuring cakes and other sweets. Inside..., the traditional house exuded charm with much wood and low tables without chairs. We opted to sit at the unusual communal table with benches just inside the entrance. The curvy functional piece of art actually worked well in the much earlier-era setting. Staff greeted us immediately and we received menus in English. There were set menus and also individual offerings. We both chose set menus and thoroughly enjoyed our tea and homemade cakes. I ordered chocolate and my husband went for the pound cake. A woman nearby managed to finish the biggest parfait I had ever seen. Before leaving, we bought two slices of lemon cake to go. Throughout our stay, we received the gracious service that we have become accustomed to in Japan. I noted that the cafe is open for lunch and offers a special curry dish. Packaged coffee and preserves are some of the items for sale here.

I saw a healthy queue outside which was a good sign as it was generally fairly quiet in Kurashiki so put my name in the list and did not have to wait long.Very friendly staff and a pleasantly simple menu to choose from - Essentially a curry rice lunch with desert of the day if you want it and a sel...ection of drinks ( mostly soft but the one bottled beer on offer was very good ) plus ice creams etc. The curry lunch was very good and great value.

Lunch with my younger son and brother-in-law. This place opens at 11:00am, but it is recommended that you write your name on the waiting list well before that so that you can get a table at this very popular restaurant when it opens. We had Miyake Curry & Rice Sets, two with Peach Frozen Parfaits an...d one with Peach Shaved Ice. They are very good combinations.

Loved this cafe so much I went twice. I am a regular visitor to Kurashiki but this was my first time to visit this cafe. Enjoyed it do much I returned 2 days later. They have an English menu but I recommend the set of a vegetable Japanese curry and cake with drink. The curry is very tasty and the ca...ke light and not too sweet.
