“Best Izakaya Experience in the City”
I had one of the best dining experiences of my life in this small izakaya near the river. The chef and owner is a master of japanese fine and bar style cuisine. The start of our night was set course of amazing dishes including a starter of fried tofu, a delicate eel omelette wrapped in a thin slice ...of daikon, a sakura shrimp salad served in an ice dome, and ai sasayaki - sweet fish grilled in rice paper which he called "ai sasayaku" meaning "love whispers". He followed this up with more beer and shochu for us and informed us that we were moving to the bar course. We had I think 10 more dishes including raw horse meat, fried goya with butter, an entire japanese eggplant stuffed with pork dumpling filling and fried, and what were maybe the best french fries I've ever had. The chef and staff were hospitable - he took me behind the bar to show me his specially made knives and had me take a video of him slicing a whole cucumber into card-thin slices in 10 seconds. I cannot recommend this izakaya highly enough!
