“Absolutely delightful Japanese food”
Japanese cuisine within ANA Intercontinental Hotel at Akasaka. The set menus are so dedicate & beautifully decorated absolutely delightful to the taste buds as well as the eyes. Price was quite reasonable @USD 50 for the nice meal shown in the photos.

“Very authentic restaurant”
We came here & had a set menu of 6 course set menu with sake pairing. The food was very authentic Japanese , we had grilled eggplant with snow crab as the amuse-Bouche, that was followed by a broth with minced fish & prawn ball, next came the sushi which had 5 types of sushi from tuna, salmon, prawn..., amberjack & scallop. next cause was tempura with white fish and vegetables, main dish was black haired wagyu beef which was the highlight of our meal, you have dipping sauces & we were told to dip it in the soya sauce which we did & it was amazing, would never have thought to do that. Last was the dessert which was green tea ice cream with seasonal nuts, no nuts were on the dessert but the fruit that came instead was a perfect way to finish a meal. The staff were lovely however the one downside was that I asked for a water twice & it never came however apart from that it was perfect.

“Below expectations. ”
I was seeking a good, traditional Japanese restaurant for my last day in Tokyo but Unkai was not it. It overlooks a lovely garden with a waterfall and service was very good. I had a bento box so I could have a taste of different things. It was nicely presented, but, except for the sashimi, the f...ood was not very good, not very tasty, in fact quite bland. Quite expensive but not good value.

“Underrated Kaiseki beauty ”
For those spending time searching for hours finding the best Michelin star Japanese restaurant.... stop right there and just make a booking at Unkai and order the full kaiseki menu. For me, and I could have been lucky with the master behind my full course lunch kaiseki, but it tasted much more sup...erior than others I’ve been to in the past (I think it’s better than Ryugin, but that’s just me). Very memorable experience for those who have international guests visiting Tokyo.
