“Incredibly popular place, hard to get in, but worth trying”
Since this restaurant was featured in now popular TV series “Kodoku-no-Gurume” (Solitary Gourmet), the waiting line became impossibly long, so I abandoned hope to visit here. But when I happened to be in Akabane, one of the favorite places in Tokyo, I went there with faint hope, and found just a co...uple of people who wanted to get in. It was Monday, 11:30, which might be best chance for you. What a lucky day! Before entering,Okamisan told me that I had to order Unagi, (eel) and only three top (most expensive) ones. Hey no problem! This place is also known for guinea fowl. While waiting for Unaju Toku(Special, grilled eel on rice, served in a lacquered box)JPY2500, I ordered Horo baragushi (Variety of guinea fowl meat skewer) JPY300, and Unagimogushi (Eel liver skewer) JPY400. Most impressive was guinea fowl. Liver heart, thigh, breast and many other parts on the skewer, and it tasted like a fine sinfonietta. Delicate, balanced, with many nuances. The eel liver skewer had 8 pieces, too simple and a bit boring. But it’s okay. Eel then came in front of me. It was good, but not surprisingly so. I am from the western part of Japan and maybe quite a different cooking style of eels here might influence my impression. In the East including Tokyo, eel is cut on back side, and first steamed and then grilled. In the West, we cut eel on belly side, and do not steam them. Anyway, the experience here was just great. During my lunch, phone rang many times, making service lady apologize for dinner tables' not available “until next year”.

“One of the best eel restaurant”
This is an eel specialty-restaurant, which has a lot of eel dishes. We started with chicken soup and pickles. Yakitori tastes good too. Finally we ate eel bowl taste great. I really recommend the long-established eel restaurant.
