I have been a regular customer at this restaurant for over 2 years. I visit Japan a few times a year on business and I come to this restaurant for omakase during every visit. I truly appreciate the traditional treatment I received as any other customers. Unfortunately, this time (January 2026) th...ings changed. I was the only customer not giving a hot towel after I sat down. Furthermore, instead of coming piece by piece as omakase should be, my sushi came on a plate with 5-6 pieces instead. The restaurant was half vacant. There was absolutely no rush at all. Next, I wasn't giving a hot tea at the end of the dinner until I asked for one. Then I wasn't giving a hot towel at the end of the dinner. All these are what Japanese restaurant dinner supposed to be liked. I felt that I wasn't being welcome as a customer. I believe this has something to do with the fact that I am an ethnical Chinese and there are tensions between Japan and China right now. But I actually grow up in a western country. I will look for another sushi shop that is less racist.

Excellent service. Busy around 6 to 7pm on a Sunday. Staff speak Chinese and a little English also, which made our visit easier. Fresh sushi and sashimi and the friendly banter of the chef made this an enjoyable visit. Total cost came to 11,000 yen for 2 people which was good value for the quantity ...and quality we had.

Although Umai SushiKan (Ginza2) is 'technically' a small sushi chain restaurant it is in the $higher$ end bracket of chain restaurants and yet the sushi was just extraordinary. This sushi bar originates from Sendai - arguably the seafood 'food-bowl' of Japan. I have eaten at so many of the best sush...i establishments in Tokyo over 30yrs (including Jiro's, Sawada, Saito etc.) but the experience here at Umai (Ginza2) last month was just as amazing - actually better due to our amazing and friendly Itamae - Eric-san. We arrived and ordered an open-ended Omakase meal for 3 persons. Our very friendly and affable Itamae Eric spoke perfect English and was able to explain each and every single morsel of super fresh seafood he prepared, how he was preparing it, exactly where it was sourced from within Japan or around the world and the nuances of each. Our Itamae was also very attentive and intuitive to our needs and any possible likes/dislikes throughout the entire meal often asking - no dislikes! Umai had just an amazing variety of seafood - better than most top sushi bars I've been to - but note - some won't be routinely offered to a foreigner. Unlike most 'high-end' sushi establishments here at Umai we felt totally relaxed and unrushed so we could actually savour each morsel of exquisite sushi prepared for us. The live whitebait served in sake at the end was the epitome to a fine meal! This was just an amazing lifetime experience at UmaiSushiKan Ginza2 - it epitomises to me the true, relaxed and overall 'Zen of Sushi' - which we have rarely fully experienced before - even at Saito's, Jiro's! This was a new benchmark sushi experience of my lifetime. Thanks Itamae Eric-san! Will return for sure.

We went to the market late so we walked into this restaurant without knowing anything about it. We got the chef's special and a la carte sushi. Everything was delicious. If we go back to Tokyo, we'll definitely be stopping by again. They stop serving at 1:20 so go in the morning.

I enjoyed this Sushi Restaurant chain with shops originally from Sendai, Japan and including the Tsukiji Market outlets. Well priced and tasty/fresh sushi. You can order set menus or by the piece. Staff friendly and helpful. Good luck and enjoy!
