“Just try it! Tip for InterContinental Bay guests.”
Next to the Daimon subway station and a short walk from the Hamamatsucho JR station. A great option for an inexpensive full Japanese experience dinner while staying at the InterContinental Bay hotel. No signs in English. There is one handwritten menu in English available. But just order some inex...pensive dishes and you will enjoy what is presented. No risks in quality and prices. Inviting staff. Free water (like everywhere in restaurants in Japan). Best thing is the fact that you will find yourself in the middle of the Tokyo eating out culture. Lot of smoke inside from cigarets, BBQ and hot pots (so your clothes will get really smelly), but you will meet lot of people you will not understand but still have a nice evening with. Small downstairs (12-14 guests), little bigger and lively upstairs. We were placed upstairs. Nothing fancy, just a lot of (local) fun. Not my first choice for a dinner with kids, but great for one or two couples.

“Back again!”
With joy we returned to Hokkaido Yakumocho for our second trip to Tokyo this year. While staying at Shiba Park Hotel we have 5 minutes walk to this absolute favourite of restaurants in the area. This time we had 3 great evenings with the most fresh seafood you could imagine. Crabfish, salmon, clams ...and squid is cooked with care and enhancing the caracter of the raw material in a Hokkaido style. Great sallads and alternative to fish as chicken is also on the menu. Their own brand of soy and salt for sale is going with us back to Sweden. The restaurant seems to be quite attractive to locals, while a steady stream of eager guests is flocking at the entrance, so you might find it full sometimes. Don't let that discourage you! Go there and enjoy a superb meal!

“Fantastic! Don't miss it!”
While strolling in the Shiba area in Tokyo, looking for the restaurant of the night, we came across a local restaurant with no "latin" signs, but with a inviting appearence. We figured out it was a seafood restaurant by their display of fish and clams. As a rule we try to to find places with locals ...as guests, and this time a group of business people ended a day in good spirit with fried fish, fresh sallads and a lot of beer. We couldn't resist this scene! With no expectations we were blown away by the professional service, freshness of the food and at a resonable price. Clams were grilled at the table, octopus delicious and sallad crisp and a joy for the eye and mouth. What we saw of the food of the guests around us, it looked as deliciuos as ours. Because of the first impression, we went there once more before leaving Tokyo, and were equally satisfied! Best meals we had in Tokyo! Hokkaido Yakumocho can seat 12-14 guests at lower level and also has a more youthfull upper level (unknown number of tables) that seemed quite popular. Not fancy, just a local specialist in seafood, with everyday people as guests. So, maybe not the first place you, as non-japanese speaking might choose, but DO!!! You will not reget it!!
