“Great food and cool place”
We had a great diner in Anji with a very helpful waiter and yummy food in a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. We had grilled clams, including a succulent giant scallop, prepared at our table by the waiter. This was heaven. We also had a very good grilled fish (Hokke, a local fish belonging to t...he same family as the mackerel. Very good with great texture. And we tried 2 sakes, 1 recommended by the waited and 1 we picked from the menu as it said that it has a muscat type flavor, and both were excellent and extremely pleasing. Great food, nice people, nice place make a great diner. Highly recommended

“Intruiging flavours amidst smokey kitchen”
This is a superb typical Izakaya. You enter and you are hit by a wall of food essences. Hungry casual people running in and out slaming the restaurant door thanking for the great food! At this place you get high quality food let it be sushi or tempura for a very good price!!

“Great spot for our first Kyoto dinner”
What are the odds that a little random spot you pick would be so much fun! My sister-in-law and I had just arrived in Kyoto by way of planes, trains, and automobiles--so after 24 hours of little to no sleep we were hungry and punch drunk. We walked a few blocks around our hotel trying to find a sp...ot to eat, not easy when you don't read Japanese. One of the waiters saw us outside musing over pictures of the dishes and brought out an English menu, so we saw that as a friendly omen and accepted the invitation. This is a small spot, with counter seating in a square around a primitive coal-grill. Traditional Japanese sitting is available in the back, and then there was one other large table behind us. Our entrees were small, but sufficient. The house specialty fried chicken was an interesting and tasty hybrid of tempura and western batter frying--tender and not too greasy. The Charcoal-grilled chicken bowl was not what we expected--heavy charcoal-flavoring bothered us a bit but we soldiered through some of it and enjoyed the rice that came with it. I'm not a sake aficionado, but it looked like they had a great variety and they were able to bring me a glass based on my preferences for dry. My sister-in-law had plum wine over ice--a great sweet rendition that was perfect for her.
