“The Best Lunch Spot When you Visit Nishinomiya Sake Brewery Area”
We have made one day trips to the Nishinomiya Sake Brewery area several times. As far as we know, Tokyo Chikuyotei is the best place to have lunch during a short trip around the area. As its name suggests, the restaurant serves Tokyo (or Edo) style broiled eels, which are steamed before broiling. ... That makes eels tenderer than those broiled in Kansai style. They say Tokyo cooks cut eels from the fish's backs as Edo used to be samurai town and they disliked anything cut by the belly, which implies seppuku. We couldn't tell whether the cooks really cut eels by the back or not from the broiled eels' appearances. This time, we were staying in Kobe and hurried to the city after the lunch. But warm eels gave us a relief on such a cold windy day.

“Hitsu-mabushi: Another Exciting Errantry to Eat Eel Exotically”
Hitsu-mabushi, which is popular in Nagoya, was a new way to have eel for me. It enabled me to enjoy broiled eel in a couple of different ways.

“reservations are a must”
Unlike other chikuyotei locations, this one is in a former sake brewer house. The atmosphere is great. You can eat while enjoying the traditional dwelling and the Japanese garden. The menu is mainly eel. No vegetarian menu and no English menu. They may make you wait up to an hour if you don't rese...rve so make sure to call in advance.

“Recommended”
I understand that there are several locations of this restaurant in Tokyo. We visited the one that is on Gion, close to the Kabuki theater. They specialize on dishes with eel. We had a big box with eel on rice for about 3200 yen, and it was very good. Staff was very nice as well.
