“Convenient izakaya-style restaurant at Kumamoto station offering seafood or local dishes”
This is one of the restaurants located inside "Higo Yokamon Ichiba", a commercial complex directly connected to Kumamoto Station. As its name suggests, it offers a wide variety of seafood dishes. However, it's not limited to seafood; there are also plenty of meat-based options, including local specialties unique to Kumamoto, such as "Basashi (horse sashimi)". Since the restaurant is situated within a commercial facility, the space feels typical of such locations. The seating consists mainly of four-person tables, with counter seats available for solo diners to use comfortably. Although the number of seats is ample, there are quite a few partitions between tables, so it may not be the best choice for larger groups. The presentation of the dishes is fairly standard, much like what you would find in typical izakaya-style restaurants. There are no overly creative or unique arrangements, which suggests that the dishes are meant to complement a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience rather than take center stage. This restaurant stays open until late at night, serving not only classic izakaya-style small plates but also hearty meals like ramen and curry. It's a convenient option for those looking for a place to eat later in the evening. The number of staff on duty seems sufficient, and perhaps because I visited during a quieter time, the service quality was excellent.

“Good place to try horse meat (basashi)”
Well, if you are in Kumamoto, and you would like to try something new, you should definitely try basashi (raw horse meat), assuming you can get over the mental hurdle imagining yourself chewing a horse. Unfortunately I did not come at lunch as this restaurant has very reasonably priced basashi set m...enu. At dinner time you only get to sample basashi pretty much as a "side dish", i.e. small portions. I ordered the akami (the leanest part) and it looked like raw tuna but more chewy. It does go well with seafood don.
