“A nice atmosphere restaurant to try Kagoshima food”
I went to Satsuma-aji (meaning the flavor of Kagoshima) for dinner because the place I wanted to go happened to be closed for the night, but it turned out to be a good choice. A place that's apparently been around for more than 40 years, with counter seats and rooms for bigger parties, the restauran...t was friendly and the food tasty. Satsuma-aji offered a whole range of food including sushi and dishes using local kurobuta pork, and it had an English menu. I picked the set course that highlighted Kagoshima dishes, including sashimi of kibinago (a type of herring) on ice, delicious satsuma-age (fried fish cakes) and tonkotsu, a miso stew with pork and vegetables. I washed down the dishes with shochu liquor mixed with hot water, and they come in distinct low black kettles called kuro joka. They also offer all sorts of alcohol from beer to wine to sake (but shochu is the specialty of this area). It was a satisfying feast that left me happy as I walked home to my inn.

“Very tasty local foods”
The restaurant is almost at the end of a main shopping street closer to the sea, about 10 minutes from Ibusuki station. I had a cheaper set menu and a small kettle of Sweet Potato Shochu and Paid US$28. The restaurant may be the fanciest restaurant in Ibusuki. All the local dishes served were very t...asty and I liked them very much specially with local shochu called Riemon(Black version). I should have better come with my friends to share more dishes and Shochu.

“Not great sushi”
We had sushi here. It was OK but we have had better and we didn't think they were the best cuts either in texture or flavour. I tried the sho chu (sweet potato drink) which was pretty strong but good.
