“Lunch was meh...”
Got hooked by the positive reviews and decided to have my husbands birthday lunch at Fishman. The place has a good vibe and the bathroom smelled nice :> Staff were kind and attentive. However the food was not bad but also there was nothing special At 1 pm they have run out of the crab domburi and t...he pudding that was hyped a lot. The Tiramisu was a bit soggy. Surprised to see raw liver served in a regular lunch set as appetizer. too polarizing. I could have cooked the gindara at home better. at the end of the meal of 4 pax.. our consensus was "that was healthy " meaning not tasty.

“Best kept secret in Fukuoka”
No matter what you order here the food is Delicious and Very Reasonable. For the price and quality I am not sure anyone can beat the Gem. I could eat there everyday because the menu is so diverse. Sashimi is great and the cooked dishes are wonderful and flavorful. Always comes with fresh Tofu, Tsu...kemono, Tamago, Miso Soup, rice and a side dish. All the rice, Tamago and Tsukemono you want. “Terrific food and fabulous evening”
You know you've struck gold when you walk in the door and feel the vibe. Cool-looking staff and the open kitchen give an immediate sense to this excellent fish eatery, the sushi arc was delicious... as were the other bits that followed but the fish recommended by Bambo was outstanding... He called i...s Brikama but I have failed to find a photo of this obviously large but sought-after delicacy. Maybe because it was close to Halloween, we were twice invaded by 3 belly-danciing ladies cavorting around the tables. That may sound a bit naff... but it was actually great fun. Thoroughly recommended.

“Food-show!”
Our evening at Fishman has been "unusual". The menu offers all kinds of fish-based dishes, and it's clear the restaurant focuses a lot on the "acrobatic" presentation: sashimi served on little "stairs"; smoked potato salad in the shape of a nest with an egg on top of it; the waiters cooking your ome...lette in front of you with agile chopsticks maneuvers etc. We were not sure what to order, so we basically picked randomly. Not everyone at the table was satisfied by the choices but i had a pleasent dinner... the salad was something new in consistency (even though i would have preferred an hot version of it), the avocado tempura was great, and the squid was delicious. At some point two girls started dancing around us for apparently no reason at all, that was a little bit odd... then we decided to loosen up and danced from our table as silly tourists. As you can imagine is not very cheap, but after all is fish restaurant... in Japan. The thing that really made us enjoying the dinner was the staff... when we first arrived the cook told us there was no space for us, so we spent couple of minutes outside looking for an alternative, but then the waitress reached for us guiding us to a our table since they had made room for us. They helped us out with the menu, especially the gentleman from Senegal who is pretty fluent in english, and at the end of the dinner he also spent two minutes chatting with us, which was nice since we had little chance to talk with locals... he gave us some advice & thoughts on the city and i ended up being compared to Rami Malek (which is always a good thing!). When we walked the door saying "goodbye", the third member of the staff gave us a little bag with crackers as a crunchy goodbye token. So, they all have been really forthcoming in a totally measured and discreet way.

“Distractions from mediocrity”
I visited Fishman with a friend based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and was severely disappointed. The 'molecular gastronomy' is pompous nonsense. Some tomatoes frozen in dry ice at the table and served in a bland consumè were dreadful. The 'reimagined' nikujaga cake was too sweet and si...mply a pale immitation of the original classic dish. What's more, we were subjected to random pole dancing girls suddenly dancing around the restaurant for 10 minute intervals with loud music. I was bewildered. The interior is lovely and not every dish was bad, but even the decent dishes felt like style over substance. No single dish was genuinely impressive. This restaurant needs to focus on the quality of it's food instead of distracting and irritating gimmicks.
